A week full of Homecoming festivities concluded under Friday night lights when Adrian hosted the Appleton City Bulldogs at the George Bruto Athletic Complex. Adrian was coming off a memorable double overtime win against the rival Archie Whirlwinds. Adrian won the toss and scored first but little went their way the rest of the game.
Adrian and Appleton City traded touchdowns before Appleton City took a two touchdown lead with time running down in the first half. Adrian had won the toss and deferred possession til the second half. Sophomore Hunter Steen found paydirt on a nice diving play to the corner of the end zone pylon with :17 to play till halftime. A touchdown before the half and receiving the ball to start the third quarter gave Adrian hopes to get back on top in the ballgame.

However, a three and out on their first possession of the second half only foreshadowed the hardship the team would face in route to a 60-21 defeat. Speed and an explosive passing game spelled doom for the Blackhawk defenders. The second half quickly turned into a game that the team could not forget about fast enough.
Head coach Matt Cochran had these thoughts about the game: "We knew offensively Appleton would be pretty good. This is the first game they had all their starters back. They are a good team. We did not play well defensively. Once they broke out, we didn't have anyone with their speed. They have four players that could score from anywhere. We did get some things going offensively in the first half. We have to learn from this and move on to Osceola. They could be getting some players back this week that were hurt earlier in the year as well. I don't care what their record is. They will give us their best game. There are no gimmes this year. We have to be ready to play every Friday. Osceola is no different. We need to go down there and play well on both sides of the ball to get a win."
The best way to move forward from a game like this is to take it out on the next opponent. Adrian hosts the Osceola Indians this Friday. A win against this WEMO opponent will be a great way to get the season back on track as they make their way toward district action.
