A ceiling fan is an item
that will pay for itself and do it fairly quickly. Running the ceiling fan in
the summer lets you run the thermostat up to 6 degrees higher and keep you at the
same comfort level, hence saving a lot of energy.
I have read reports that
state ceiling fans can help lower your electric bill by up to 30 to 40 percent.
I’m not sure if it would be quite that high, but I’m certain it is a bunch. While
a ceiling fan doesn’t actually decrease the temperature of a room, the draft
makes the room feel cooler, allowing you to raise the thermostat and be just as
comfortable.
In the winter, simply
reverse the fan, change the speed to low and it will move all the hot air that
is stuck up at the ceiling where you aren’t living, to down where you are
living, saving on the old heat bill.
