Heart gift
Once your student,
always your student. I’m still saying this even though I have been retired from
teaching for 26 years.
And for some strange
reason, February 9, 2017 at 9:53 a.m. 25 degrees, 112#, the thought came to me
to pray for all my former students since Once my student, always my student.
Now here is the plan
that came to my mind. I taught all 30 years at Adrian--1960-61 to 1990-91.
So, since most months
have 30 days I would take day 1 to pray for the year 1960-61, day 2 for 1961-62
and so forth ending with the year 1990-91 on the last day of the month.
To begin, I get the
yearbook out for that year representing everyone that year and put it on the
counter at my little prayer altar. Now since I can’t pray specific prayers for
everyone, I have sort of a covering prayer as my friend Peggy would say.
I pray two things.
One—that they would know the JOY, PEACE, and EXCITEMENT of putting God first in
their lives and two—that God would meet their needs.
Although this prayer
is for everyone that year, I do put special emphasis on the seniors since they
would be leaving at the end of the year.
And as some of my
former students know, I do like to pray so I thought this would be an ongoing
gift I could give to all my “forever students.”
For some reason, though, I really didn’t really get into the
monthly discipline of this until July even though the idea came to me in February.
Now I look forward to
the beginning of each month to start my “30-year praying” all over again,
praying each day for a different year.
I thank God for my
former students and fellow teachers and this is just one way I can continue to
show my appreciation.
Today is September 25
so I am praying for the class and year of 1985. May you know the excitement of
God in your life and may He meet all your needs.
“The Lord is near to all who call on him…”
(Psalm 145:18 NIV)
Love in Jesus,
God’s praying servant,
Liz Ray
