Blackhawks Defeat Marksmen; Extend Record to 8-0

The Adrian Blackhawks extended their unbeaten record to 8-0 Friday night after defeating Sherwood 32-0.  Any shutout is impressive and a 32 point spread indicates a blowout.  All that is true but it took the better part of three quarters to unfold.
Adrian was dealt a sever blow this week when the starting  quarterback was likely lost for the rest of the season to a knee injury and one of their best linemen declared inactive for the Sherwood game as a precaution. But the season goes on and games must be played.
The Blackhawks are a deep team and had players ready to step up and fill in.  Sophomore Bryant Burkes and Denton Cunningham filled in for Hunter Steen.  Dylan Bell performed admirably in the absence of Anson Johnson.
Adrian took a slim 7- 0 lead into halftime after a James Keating 1 yard run to paydirt and Noah Koehler extra point.  That was the only scoring until midway through the third quarter when Keating scored is second touchdown of the night.  The Blackhawks scored three more touchdowns on runs by Burkes, Cooper Mead and Cameron Tallman.
The team puts its undefeated record on the line this week when they host the Fair Grove Eagles at the George Bruto Athletic complex.   It is Homecoming Week for the Blackhawks with Friday also being senior night.   Fair Grove is 6-2 in Class 2 with its losses coming to state ranked teams.   Adrian will have to overcome the distractions that come with Homecoming Week as well as continue to gel with their new quarterback.

Coach’s Comments:
Not a super first half tonight. We had a couple key players out , and that really affected how our offense ran in the first half. Once we made some adjustments at halftime, things got rolling in the second half. Adversity always shows its face sometime during the year, and we just have to be able to handle it. We got the win, and that's what we wanted. We have Homecoming next week and a good Fair Grove team is coming to town. We will have to play well against them. We look forward to the challenge. District games start soon, and that's what we really need to focus on.
