A sincere thank you from Veterans
The Adrian Veterans of Foreign Wars takes in
literally hundreds of tattered/worn US flags that we respectfully retire
periodically. We have a depository stand on the west side of the VFW post
building just for folks to deposit their old flags instead of having them put
in a dumpster. We veterans ask that you proudly fly Old Glory, properly retire
them when they are no longer useful and if you need a new one, we have very
good American made flags for sale everyday for $20.00. See Denny Petty, Tim
Hummel or Don Arndt for a new flag or come to the VFW post any Wednesday
morning before 8:30 am to make that purchase.
This brings me to my point. Every flag we
retire by burning is folded in the traditional tri-fold before burning. Every
flag is then saluted by a veteran as it is retired. Many times we attach a
deceased veteran name to a flag when asked. That invitation is always extended
to everyone wanting to have a veteran’s name read aloud with the flag as it is
retired. Folding the flags has been a
project for years that we have done on cold mornings over coffee. But thanks to
Mr Colter Schacher and his
“Future Business Leaders of America” class at Adrian High School, we are
receiving much appreciated help! The FBLA class has taken on this project to
help us and have already folded over 300 flags and have a done a beautiful job
of it as well. They are folded perfectly and we have never did it better
ourselves. These young ladies and gentlemen have our admiration and heartfelt
thanks for their generosity, their time and labors.
