Adrian started the game against Drexel the same way they ended last week's with Liberal by powering their way in on a rushing touchdown. However, the visiting Bobcats made things interesting by responding with touchdown drive of their own in the first quarter.
Adrian had scored on a Cameron Tallman run to paydirt. With Noah Koehler's extra point the Blackhawks were up 7-0 and poised for another blowout. Drexel was able to mix in some passes with their running game to put together a sustained scoring drive. Aaron Woods rushed the ball in from three yards out. Drexel then went for the lead on a two point conversion attempt that was thwarted by the staunch Adrian defense.
That was as close as Drexel got to an upset. Adrian dominated from this point on and had a turbo clock situation going the second half of the ballgame. The final score was 55-6.
Adrian amassed 400 yards on the ground. Cameron Tallman, James Keating and Gavin Reed each topped 100 yards rushing. Senior Gavin Reed led the way with three offensive touchdowns. Cameron Tallman had two rushing touchdowns and James Keating one. Fellow senior Dakota Harris was on the receiving end of a 5 yard touchdown pass from Bryant Burkes. For the second straight game Harris scored a defensive touchdown on a 4th quarter 31 yard fumble return.
The defense gave up the first touchdown on the year early in the game but shut the Bobcat offense down after that. For the third straight game the defense registered a safety, the second on the year for Brody Ford.
This week is homecoming week for Adrian. The Appleton City Bulldogs come to town hoping to play spoilers. They were beat 49-0 by Archie last Friday but they will be no pushover. They have talented athletes that can make it a long night for Adrian if they are taken lightly.
Coaches comments: "The kids played pretty well tonight" said head coach Matt Cochran. "We thought the rain might be a problem, but it held off. Offensively, we had three backs over 100 yards each. I like that because another team can't focus on one back. Defensively, we only gave up 12 yards rushing. Our passing defense was a little suspect at first, but we manged to improve throughout the game. We had way too many penalties, though. That has to be fixed. Overall it was a good conference win. Appleton City comes in for Homecoming next week. We have to stay focused, because they always seem to give us a hard time. Come out and support your Blackhawks next week."
