The Adrian Blackhawks travelled to Appleton City to take on the Bulldogs and their high powered offense.  The scoring went back and forth before Adrian was able to secure the victory 42-34.
The Blackhawks fell behind early but scored three second quarter touchdowns to take a 21-14 into halftime.

The Blackhawks traded touchdowns in the third quarter with the Bulldogs.   The fourth quarter seemed to be going Appleton City's way.   They scored on two long plays to close the gap to one point.   On their second touchdown they opted to go for the lead and potential win by going for two points.   The attempt failed but that was not the deciding factor in the game.

Late in the fourth quarter the Bulldogs had possession of the ball.   One more big play and they could secure victory against Adrian.   Hunter Harris would have none of that.  For the second time in as many weeks Harris found paydirt on an interception return for a touchdown that clinched the victory for the Blackhawks.   Harris stepped in front of a Billy Prater pass and ran it in from 15 yards out.

"Pretty wild game tonight. We thought it could be like that," said Head Coach Matt Cochran. "Appleton City has a very good offense. We certainly had trouble stopping them in the second half. It was mainly the big play that hurt us. We have to defend the pass better and not miss so many tackles. That really cost us in the second half. Offensively, I thought we ran the ball well most of the game. We also have to throw the ball better. That alone will open up a lot of things. However, we got the win, and that's the most important thing. We have an absolutely huge game this Friday against Osceola. It will be either for an outright conference championship or a shared conference championship with Midway. It's been five years since Adrian has won a conference football championship. Osceola is a good team. We have to concentrate on what we are doing this week. It's should be a really good game."

This coming week is a big game for the Blackhawks. Not only can they claim at least a share of the conference title but it is Homecoming week. The players will have to find a way to balance having fun with the week's activities and preparing for the game. Osceola has defeated Adrian for the past couple of years. It won't be easy but there is so much on the line.
