Blackhawks Take Aim on the Marksmen

The Adrian Blackhawks travelled to Creighton to take on the Sherwood Marksmen looking to rebound from an emotional loss the week before. Adrian took control early and cruised to a 28-0 victory.

The Blackhawks found paydirt early on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Gage Steen to Adam Cochran at the 8:47 mark. Wyatt Reynolds closed out the first quarter with a 4 yard run with 1:15 on the clock.

Adrian was silent the second quarter but notched a 3rd quarter Steen touchdown run and a Zak Dabney 15 yard run in the early seconds of the fourth quarter. Cochran was perfect on his extra point attempts.

Gage Steen led in rushing yards with 117. Reynolds cracked the century mark with 103 yards on 12 carries.

On defense Hunter Harris had a staggering 18 tackles. Brohde Bennett wasn't far behind with 14, 8 of which were solo tackles. Harris and Jimmy McDonald each recorded a sack.

Head Coach Matt Cochran's thoughts on the game focused on what the team could have done better on the offensive side of the ball. "The boys played decent football for three quarters. The second quarter kind of lulled us to sleep. We fumbled inside the 5 yard line, missed a TD pass, and had a couple of calls go against us. In the second half, the kids played well. I thought defensively we played a complete game. The offense is coming along, but we still need to improve. We have El Dorado Springs next week, and they will be tough. We will need to play well to beat them." If you have read these stories as the season has progressed you can pick out a theme that the offense needs to come around. If the Blackhawks can put that part together they can make a serious push for the district title and to continue their season. Adrian has one more regular season game at home versus the El Dorado Springs Bulldogs this Friday. They hope to improve on their 5-3 record and position themselves for district play. Game time is 7pm at the George Bruto Athletic Complex.
