Boys Win Season Opener: Sets Stage For WEMO Tournament

The Adrian Blackhawks boys basketball team opened their season hosting the Windsor Greyhounds.  Windsor came into the game with one win under their belt beating the newest member of the WEMO conference, the Lakeland Vikings, 61-31.     The Blackhawks were able to knock off the rust and gut out a 67-64 victory.
Adrian had three players in double figures.   Senior Hunter Harris had 20 points as did Freshman Hunter Steen.   Senior Gage Steen poured in 13 points.   Hunter Harris also led the team in rebounds with 8.   Gage Steen pulled down 7.
It was a very impressive win for the Blackhawks.   Having a freshman with the skill of Hunter Steen teaming  up with his older brother, Gage, feeding the ball to the big man, Hunter Harris gives the team many scoring threats.
"The guys really competed hard" said Head Coach Tyson Basore. "They played tough down the stretch".
Adrian will turn their sites to the WEMO Conference tournament held in Archie.   The tourney starts on Monday, November 30th but Adrian does not play until Tuesday at 6pm.   The team is seeded 3rd and face the sixth seed Archie Whirlwinds.   Archie fell to Windsor 70-44 in their season opener.  Adrian will have to look passed the fact the same team they beat in their first game handled the Whirlwinds so easily or they may fall prey to an upset.   If they continue to get scoring from the Steen brothers while getting a strong game down low by Hunter Harris they should move into the second round with ease.
