Adrian Boys Win Exciting Game with Sherwood

Fresh off a two game winning streak on the road the Blackhawks boys varsity  basketball team hosted the Sherwood Marksmen Monday night.  Adrian won by a comfortable margin but it was a battle along the way.  The Blackhawks had a couple ten point leads that dwindled to lower single digits before finally pulling away late to win 76-67.

Adrian had shown flashes of teamwork and chemistry all season long but had not put it all together yet until tonight.  Three players scored 18 points or better.   Three players also hit multiple three pointers.  Three was the magic number as three other players notched 6 assists or more.

The stats showed it was a very well played game as a team.  Senior leadership by Gage Steen, Trenton Tallman, Hunter Harris and Adam Cochran coupled with a breakout season by junior Logan Harris and a great addition with freshman Hunter Steen the team is starting to gel into a very solid team.   The bench has also been a source of strength for the Blackhawks.  Connor Pruitt and Dylan Novovesky have seen increased playing time which has allowed the starters to get valuable breathers throughout the games.

All of that came handy against the Marksmen down the stretch.   Adrian was pushed to the limits but a late three by Hunter Steen gave the Blackhawks some breathing room.   Gage Steen iced the game with six free throws in the closing seconds.   Sherwood was forced to foul and each time the ball was in the hands of the seasoned senior.   Gage hit the free throws as a chorus of noise came from the visiting fan section.   Steen was not phased by in sinking the free throws while also sinking Sherwood's chances at victory.

"I am very proud of the way our boys came out ready to play" said head coach Tyson Basore. "They looked for each other and made winning plays".
