Adrian Courtwarming 2016 - Happy Ball-idays!

As the Blackhawks took the court last Friday against the Osceola Indians, AHS Courtwarming candidates waited for the reveal of this year's King and Queen. The 2016 candidates were: Amina Scaletty and Philip Patterson, freshmen; Taylor Edmiston and Jay Freeman, sophomores; Jaylee Welcher and Tanner Pitts, juniors; Kirsten Carter and Alex Rushly, seniors. Assisting with the Coronation was Shelby Pittman, the 2015 AHS Courtwarming Queen. Carrying the crown and flowers were Gunnar Basore and Madilynn Laughman, accompanied by senior basketball players Gage Steen and Malory Moles.

The week of Courtwarming started with a day off from school in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Throughout the rest of the week, students came to school with crazy/bad hair. They wore extreme weather gear and holiday outfits to go with class themes (Freshmen, Day of the Dead; Sophomores, Christmas; Juniors, 4th of July; Seniors, Mardi Gras). The week ended with a building full of Blackhawk Pride as students and staff lined the classrooms, offices and hallways wearing black and gold.
Near the end of the school day on Friday, middle and high school students gathered in the gym for a Courtwarming pep rally. The cheerleaders led the Blackhawks in cheer after cheer for their teams, and the girls/boys varsity basketball teams and the wrestling team stood mid-court to pump everyone up for the big night. The Blackhawks Band kept all of the students on their feet as they danced and clapped to the spirited music. As the band played the fight song and the students and staff sang, there was no doubt that they would "back the gold and black" in the game against the Indians!

The Lady Blackhawks stomped the Lady Indians in the Courtwarming game with a final of 53-28. In a tough, well-played match against the Indians, the Blackhawks fell short of the victory by just one point, 63-62. The cheerleaders and Blackhawks fans were spirited and enthusiastic during both games. Blackhawk Pride all the way!
