Lady Blackhawks Defeat Lockwood; Stage Set For Jasper Rematch

The stage has been set for the long awaited rematch between Blackhawks and the Lady Eagles of Jasper in the championship game of the Class 2, District 13 tournament bracket.  Jasper ended Adrian's season last year in the championship game of districts.

Adrian advanced to Saturday's championship by defeating the Lockwood Tigers 69-36.    Lockwood scored the first the points of the night but that would be the only lead they would enjoy.  Anna Walley put Adrian's first points on the board with a short jumper.   Adrian regained the lead on the next possession and never looked back.

The girls really played well as a team and each of the starters had critical stretches where their performance directly affected the outcome of the game.  Not only were the starters on fire but so were the subs coming off the bench.   Kerigan Wimsatt and Kylee Morris along with Camryn Pruitt each performed admirably when put into the game.

It was a very magical night for the team and fans.  The cheerleaders and student section have been loud and enthusiastic the entire tournament yet respectful.  Tonight was by far the most electric night of the tournament.  The student section has taken it upon themselves to have "themed" nights to come dressed up.  For the girls opening round game they were dressed in all white for a "White out".   For the boys game the theme was "Country" where the students over generalized country western clothing.   Tonight it was "The Beach" theme.  Students came tastefully dressed in swimming clothes, sunglasses and beach towels.   There was a slight playful groan from the section when their blowup beach basketball was taken from them by and Adrian administrator.

The cheerleaders and student section fed off each other and you could see the effect of their efforts in the smiles and laughter of the fans there to watch the games.  Couple that with the girls winning big on the floor and you have a high school memory these kids won't soon forget.

As for the basketball team it was another lopsided victory.  It has been a common theme for them up to this point.   But that all changes come Saturday night.  The team will have to put the memories of easy victories aside and focus on a memory they hope to make.   That memory will be if they can exact revenge on the Jasper Eagles for last year's loss.

Jasper is ranked 5th in the state with a 20-1 record.   Adrian, with a 19-2 record is unranked.  This will not be a walk in the park for either team.   For Adrian to win they will have to stay relentless on defense without drawing careless fouls.  Shot selection will have to be smart and the shots have to fall.

Adrian has been very good at all of that this year.  Now is the time to put it all together against a very good team.   Win and they move on.  Lose and they can spend the the off season preparing for next year.  The core group of players from last year's squad come back a year older and a year wiser.    If the girls can keep their focus and maintain their diligence they can provide yet another memory for the high schoolers that will be cheering them on dressed in whatever theme they come up with on Saturday.
