Ryan Baker Signs Letter of Intent to Play Football for Central Methodist This Fall.

The class of 2016 has another athlete continuing their playing days while working toward their college degree.   Ryan Baker recently signed his letter of intent to play football this fall for Central Methodist University.    Ryan will shed the black and gold that made him the player he is today for the green and black of the CMU Eagles.  Keeping in tune with the title of student athlete Ryan has received both academic and athletic scholarships.

Baker played football all four years of  his high school career.  His post season honors include receiving WEMO All Conference 1st team selection as a defensive tackle and 2nd team All Conference offensive tackle.   The Blackhawk coaches awarded him with the Best Lineman award.

Ryan is also a member of the elite Academic All State Team.   To be named to this team a player must be nominated by his head coach and be a starter in 70% of games as a sophomore, junior or senior.  Nominees must also meet two of the three following criteria: 1. Must score 25 or higher on the ACT or 1740 on the SAT.  2.  3.5 GPA or higher or top 10% of his/her class.   This is quite an honor and very much a testament to reaching excellence as a student athlete.

"I plan on playing all four years at CMU.   At this time I am planning on getting a degree in Education specifically in Social Sciences.   I want to teach at the  high school level and coach football" said Baker.

"I would like to thank my parents, sister and family for always being my biggest fans and supporting me.  In particular I would like to thank my dad, Mark, who told me to always stand by coach so he knows I'm ready to play."

" I've had some great coaches, all of which helped make me the player I am today.   I really want to thank George Bruto for teaching me what it means to be a Blackhawk football player!"

Baker's advice to younger Blackhawks is to to never forget the meaning of smash mouth football and always give your best because you never know when it will be your turn to step up.
