2016 Jamboree In the Books; Season Kicks Off Friday in Butler

The 2016 Adrian Football Jamboree is in the books and the regular season is set to kick off.   Adrian hosted the yearly event Saturday August 12th at the George Bruto Athletic Complex.

Group A schools consisted of Adrian, Knob Noster, Sherwood and Appleton City.   Group B consisted of Windsor, Archie, Butler and Drexel.    Each team had 12 offensive plays per game.

Adrian squared off first with the Sherwood Marksmen followed by Knob Noster before finishing with Appleton City.  Injuries kept Adrian from playing what should be there starting lineup for the first game against Butler.  Sophomore starting quarterback, Hunter Steen, had a short stay in the hospital for dehydration.   Senior Tanner Pitts filled in at quarterback for the scrimmage.

It should be noted that scrimmages are controlled practices that allows the teams to assess how they are progressing against more realistic competition than your fellow teammates during everyday practices.  Without their starting QB in the games Adrian's offense was very vanilla and fairly easy to predict.   Having said that the boys did a very good job of executing the plays even though the defense had a fairly good idea of what was coming.

I give Adrian the advantage out of their pool of teams.   On the other side of the field Butler had their starting quarterback in the game for a short time.  He did very well as expected and was replaced by his backup.   It's hard to judge what little I saw and knowing that Butler's main offensive weapon wasn't playing in his spot.    I will say Archie looked very good as did Drexel.    For Adrian to compete for the WEMO conference title they will have to play well against Drexel and Archie.

Adrian starts the regular season on the road this Friday when they take on the Butler Bears.
