The Lady Blackhawks disposed of University Academy Monday evening before squaring up with the Barstow Knights in the championship game of the Class 2 District 14 tournament. Adrian trailed in each game but late rallies propelled them to victory both. The girls never gave up even when down several points in the second game.
Head Coach Kelsi Robards was very happy with the outcome of the games. "To say that I am proud of this team is an understatement. They accomplished something tonight that hasn't been done in 25 years. Winning this district title means a lot to this team. They earned this victory. We found ourselves down against a good Barstow team and we worked our way back and were able to get the win. We are now looking ahead to sectionals on Saturday. We have four days to prepare and I know they'll be ready to compete this weekend."

This is where playing in tougher tournaments like the Warrensburg Volleyball Tournament could help the Lady Blackhawks. They placed second in that tournament facing schools much larger than them. In the championship game they actually won one game vs Battle, a school with a total enrollment that is approximately the same as the entire population of the city of Adrian.

The idea is that by forgoing the traditional tournaments Adrian would play tougher opponents that would better prepare them for post-season play. The district title is the first indication that the strategy is paying off. Saturday will be the next opportunity to reap the rewards. Adrian travels to Concordia to take on the St. Paul Lutheran Saints in the first round of the state championship tournament. St Paul Lutheran comes in with a 25-5-3 record and winners of five straight. Adrian is 23-3-2 winners of 10 straight.
