In a week's span of time the Lady Blackhawks went from easily defeating El Dorado Springs and Lone Jack in business as usual to getting a brutal wake-up call at the hand of the Skyline Lady Tigers.
Adrian opened the week with an easy win against the El Dorado Springs Lady Bulldogs 58-41. They followed that with a 65-37 beat down of the Lone Jack Mules. The season had been cruising right along for the girls.
A big speed bump occurred in the Lone Jack when senior Anna Walley went down with an ankle injury. She was not able to finish he game so fellow senior Bailey Reed once again moved down low to fill Walley's position. The girls still won that game easily but would notice Walley's absence when they went up against the Skyline Tigers in the WK High School Holiday Shootout.
The benefit of playing in games like this is that Adrian will be facing very tough competition designed to better prepare them for the playoffs at the end of the season. The downside is the likelihood that a tougher team could beat them. In this case Monday's loss was by a margin many larger than many could have suspected. Skyline defeated Adrian 82-32. Sure the manner in which they loss stung but perhaps it will provided the necessary motivation for the girls to improve their play even as they face off against teams that aren't as talented as they faced against in this defeat.

The loss "dropped" Adrian's record to 7-1, stellar by any definition of the word. Anna is due back in action Thursday night when the Lady Blackhawks host the Tipton Cardinals. It will be a good time to see how the girls respond after a hardship.
