Dead Week / Anniversary Week

The summer weights program is in the books.   Volleyball and football camps have wrapped up.   Cheerleaders have had their camps as with the marching band.  This past weekend the Bates Count Memorial Hospital provided free sports physicals for local athletes and cheerleaders.  That can only mean one thing:  fall sports are around the corner!

This week the kids will spend their time resting up one last time and families will take advantage of their last opportunity for a family vacation before two-a-days start up.
The tradition of midnight practices kicks off Monday morning a 12am.   Typically the the first day for practice is August 1st.  However, the calendar this year has the first of August falling on a Tuesday, so MSHSAA rules allow for teams to start up one day earlier, July 31st.

I will be putting together a "meet the teams" article to kick off the new season.  I will reach out to the coaches of each sport as well as the band and cheerleading squads to give the community a glimpse of what to expect this year.

August 1st also marks two years that I started this blog.   If I can take the time to brag we have 850+ likes on our Facebook page with an average reach of 1200 per post.  Sports stories can take that up to about 3500.   I am beyond honored that so many people have turned to the blog and our Facebook page to read the stories and view the pictures that Michele and I post.

As we enter our third year I hope to build upon what we have accomplished so far.  I met with Abe Lewis this summer to formulate a plan to better cover the events surrounding the school and touching areas that don't easily get the recognition and coverage they deserve.  I will be meeting with coaches to enhance the sports coverage.  On top of that I am pleased to announce that I will be meeting with teachers and club sponsors to better cover what the students are involved with in the classroom.

The challenge we face with providing coverage via the internet is people do not have a physical copy of the articles to read and nothing to clip out and mail to family members.  If  your grandparents and other family members are not active in using the internet getting the stories to them may be difficult.

I urge you to spread the word and to email articles to your family members.  Invite them to like the page and bookmark the blog.  I have added a feature where you can subscribe and receive email alerts when a new article is posted.

If you have items of interest for a news story please email them to me.   If you are a member of one of the local churches and like to get word out about events you have coming out I would welcome the chance to assist.

I also added a Paypal link for those who would like to make a free-will donation to help us update our equipment and cover expenses as we expand our coverage.   Different sized lenses to help supplement indoor sports and wrestling, flashes, a second laptop, better photo editing software are some items we look to improve on.    Donations will not be required to read our stories and see our pictures but would be appreciated.

We have felt the love in many ways.  Thank you to those that have expressed your appreciation for the service we are providing.   And it goes without saying how humbled we were with the gift of the lense presented to us during the basketball season.   I cannot wait to try it out with football!   We have been blessed to be part of a great community and are honored to do our part to keep it that way.

As the summer winds down and school gets closer to starting back up I look forward to an even better year serving the students and families of Adrian.
