A special donation from the Class of 2025

On behalf of the Adrian Class of 2025, KCP&L donated a bench in Memory of Phoenix Santana at a dedication ceremony today.  This year's 5th graders paid tribute to their classmate, who passed away in an auto accident on July 4, 2017.  They were joined by their parents and families, Phoenix's family, Adrian teachers and staff and community members.  Mr. Ben Palmer, Art Teacher and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Advisor, delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of the staff to more than 100 people in attendance.  Phoenix's grandfather spoke for his family and Superintendent Don Lile concluded the ceremony.  The Class of 2025 released balloons to honor Phoenix.

Amy McVey, a 4th grade teacher, cherishes each and every one of her students, including Phoenix.  She shared these sentiments:  "Phoenix was an amazing student.  He was the kind of kid that left you smiling at the end of class.  He loved the essence of everything the day had to offer.  He often times would be the last one to leave class.  It was common to ask him to hustle it up so that he could get to his next class but then he would stop and share a great story with you.  No matter what was going on or if you were falling behind on your own time, you took part in his story because it was simply part of his heart and humor that he wanted...he needed...to share.  And that smile...gosh...it was infectious.  Nothing, and I mean nothing, would break down that smile of his.  He truly was the light of each day."

Amy McVey shared this picture with Phoenix and two of her
4th graders that was taken during field day last spring.
