Adrian Mayor, Fire and Police Pay Respects for Fallen Clinton, MO Officer

Hundreds of police officers and other emergency personnel from around the area have turned out in Clinton, MO to pay their respects for fallen officer, Gary Michael.   The Adrian police department and volunteer fire department were among those that gathered in front of the police station Tuesday.  Mayor Hershel Cole represented the town of Adrian.  The Butler and Drexel fire departments made the trip with the group.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol who is heading up the investigation, Officer Michael was gunned down during what should have been a routine traffic stop for a registration violation.  Ian James McCarthy, 39, emerged from his vehicle with a long gun whose bullet went through his vest. Officer Michael went into cardiac arrest and died at a local hospital.

McCarthy has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action, both felonies.

The funeral for Officer Michael will be Saturday at 11am at the Benson Convention Center.  A public viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9-11am.
