Adrian hosted the Butler Bears last Friday in High School football action. Adrian had a few key players missing from the Jamboree held the previous week so fans weren't for certain what the team was in store for this year. The fans soon found out that this game was going to be all Adrian from the opening kickoff to the final buzzer. The Blackhawks won handily 28-0.
Butler won the toss and elected to defer possession until the second half. Cooper Mead returned the ball deep into Butler territory. On the first play from scrimmage Junior quarterback Hunter Steen hit Mead on a 33 yard pass play resulting in a touchdown. Freshman kicker Case Doody was good on his first High School extra point attempt.
Steen found paydirt with 2:30 to play in the first quarter on a 15 yard touchdown run. Doody's extra point was good again. Cooper Mead finished the first half scoring with a 5-yard run with 31 seconds to play.
Adrian's final score came on a 69 yard Steen to Mead touchdown pass. Doody was successful on all four extra point attempts.
The Blackhawk defense would bend but never broke in the contest. Butler managed to gain 183 yards on the ground but the passing game was held to 2 yards on one completion. On offense Adrian had 127 yards passing and 278 yards rushing.
"Great effort by the whole team tonight" said Head Coach Matt Cochran. "The kids played with a lot of energy. We rushed for over 270 yds. and passed for over 120 yds. It was really a team win. We made a lot of mistakes, and we have a lot to work on, but a win is a win. We need to come prepared next week because we have Drexel, and they will be ready to play."

Adrian will be at home again this week as they host the Drexel Bobcats. Drexel defeated Appleton City in their opening game 20-13. It's only the second week of the season but this game will have huge ramifications for the WEMO conference title. Game time is set for 7pm at the George Bruto Athletic Complex.
