Mistaken Identity by Liz Ray

I can laugh about it now. But it wasn’t funny at the time. It has taken me a while to be able to talk about it, to admit it—about four months, in fact.
So here it is. May 12, I was driving into town and I started hearing this horrible sound in the dashboard. It was like a constant static—a loud, buzzing noise and it wouldn’t stop.
I thought what is this. Is the Suzuki going bonkers! I’ve got to look into this quick.
So I wheeled into Jimmy McCanles’s Adrian Auto Care before going any further into town. I had to find out what was going on. Is the Suzuki falling apart. I started thinking all kinds of things.
Of course, I had no appointment. This was a spur of the moment thing. Jimmy was busy with another customer.
So I waited until he had a break, then I told him about the sound in the dashboard and asked him if he could come look at it and see what he thought.
Well, he came out to the Suzuki and looked and he listened and he listened some more.
Then he looked at me and he said, “I don’t hear anything.”
I said, “What do you mean, you can’t hear anything?” He said again, “I can’t hear anything.”
I was confused. Why couldn’t he hear all that static buzzing noise about to drive me crazy.
Well, I finally took him at his word and drove on over to Dollar General.
Before I got out though, for some reason I checked my hearing aid. I checked the channels and when I turned it off the channel it was on, no more buzzing.
Now the light dawned on me. Jimmy truly heard no noise because it was my hearing aid on the wrong channel causing the sound that seemed like it was coming from the dashboard.
What an easy fix! And no car repair expense. Hopefully, I learned something from this experience and can even laugh about it.
And I think God likes it when we can laugh. Proverbs 15:30 (MSG) says, “A twinkle in the eye means joy in the heart…”
Love in Jesus,
God’s laughing servant,
Liz Ray
