Another Newport achieves the rank of Eagle!

Trevor Newport - Eagle Scout

The Newports are widely known in Adrian for their deep commitment to scouting.  Jimmy Newport, AHS Class of 1993, is an Eagle Scout.  Newport's son, Dalton, also holds the rank of Eagle Scout.  His brother Travis and his father-in-law Everett Cates are Eagle Scouts, too.  Joining the Newport/Cates clan as a fellow Eagle Scout is AHS Sophomore Trevor Newport.  His Court of Honor was held on Saturday, October 6, 2018.

Trevor joined Adrian Pack 238 Cub Scouts in 1st Grade.  With hard work and determination in his younger years, Trevor earned the Arrow of Light, which is the only Cub Scout award  worn on the Boy Scout uniform. After crossing over to Boy Scouts, Trevor joined Ballard Troop 163, where he has dedicated countless hours to the troop.  In 2017, Trevor became a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Osceola.  He joined the Tribe of Mic-O-Say dancers, who perform for Cub Scouts Packs through the Heart of America Council.  This past summer Trevor was on staff at Bartle, dedicating most of his free time while school was out to scouting.  As an Eagle, Trevor will continue these things.  In addition, Trevor said, "I will continue to help the younger boys."

On Trevor's journey to receiving his Eagle, including during the Court of Honor, Trevor had this to say:  "I was happy to get the knife and sheath because they were both gifts from two people that have made my summer and scouts enjoyable."  Trevor had to complete an approved project to obtain the rank of Eagle.  Trevor led a team of scouts in constructing benches for the Adrian Youth Soccer League.  The Newport family extends their gratitude and appreciation to the league for sponsoring and funding Trevor's Eagle project.  Trevor said he learned how to manage and work with a team of people to complete the project.

Trevor said it is important to him to share scouting with his family.  He has made many friends through the years and has had top-notch leaders.  Trevor said, "I want to thank my Piercing Arrow Staff and Mic-O-Say Dancer friends, my leaders, my troop, my parents, brother and grandparents."  In turn, they are all proud!  Erin Newport, Trevor's Mom, said: "Having both of our boys earn the rank of Eagle is something we dreamed of as parents for a very long time. They have both put in alot of hard work and dedication with their troop, Mic-O-Say dancers, and spending their summers at H. Bartle Scout Reservation."

Many Blackhawks have been or currently are Cub/Boy Scouts.  After receiving an invitation from Trevor, Superintendent Don Lile attended his Court of Honor.  Lile said, "I always like seeing our students excel in activities outside of the school, especially something like scouts that requires so much time and dedication.  Congratulations, Trevor!"  Mike and Michele Burris also offer their congrats:  "Trevor, we are in awe of your commitment to scouts.  You've learned and done so much through the years!  Congratulations!  We can't wait to see what scouts brings next for you!"  There's some serious Blackhawk Pride going on right now!  Way to go, Trevor!

Check out Trevor's years in scouting up until now!
