Midway Week. 'nuff Said

I can speak for anybody 40 and above (and probably under) when I say that Midway week is a special week when it comes to Blackhawk football.  I know the same is being said by the Midway Vikings
Adrian and Midway have dominated the history of the WEMO conference.   Seven combined state championships (6 for Midway, one for Adrian).  Each team has been runner-up once.  Too many conference titles to give an accurate count and numerous heartbreaking losses experienced at the hands of each.  Seasons have ended with a loss to their rival in the playoffs while watching the exuberation on the opponent's sideline.
This week the Adrian Blackhawks host the Midway Vikings in quite possibly the biggest game in this rivalry since the mid-90s playoff game when Midway ended Adrian's season.   Each team is undefeated.  Midway comes into the game having knocked off the previously undefeated Jasper Eagles and determined to do the same to Adrian and reclaim the conference title.   Adrian is ranked #6 in the state.  They survived their first real challenge by defeating a tough Archie Whirlwind team 7-0.
The teams could be undefeated, winless or a combination of the two and the standings wouldn't matter.  This rivalry is 50+ years old and pretty evenly split.  A big thanks to Corey Mickelson and Midway Vikings Football for the following stats:

Midway held Adrian scoreless 8 of the next 11 years.
Midway had their 6 game winning streak snapped last year with a 14-12 Adrian victory.
Both teams are 6-0 on the season.   There are six game films for each team to study.  There will be no secret to what each team will bring to the table.
I'm sure each side will have a few tricks up their sleeves  but Midway will know what core plays the Blackhawks will run.  It will be up to Adrian to execute the plays better than they have all year.  Blockers will have to block better STAY with their blocks longer.
Adrian also MUST cut down on penalties.  There is a fine line between being aggressive and being stupid.  The targeting and unsportsmanlike hits will come back to haunt the Blackhawks the further the season progresses.  The margin of error is going to be smaller.  If it's fourth and short they will have to be disciplined enough to watch the ball.  They cannot gift the opponents yardage and take key plays and points off the board with ill advised penalties.

If you have not attended a game this year make sure you make Friday your first.  Bring a friend and/or tell a friend to be there.   This game and the atmosphere around it will be epic.
