Tough Loss in the Adrian vs. Midway Rivalry Game

There is a 24-hour rule when it comes to sports. Sometimes you just have to take a few extra days to let the blood pressure come down before discussing a ball game.   The Adrian vs Midway game did not live up to the hype. Unfortunately for the Blackhawk faithful it was our team on the short end of the stick.
The Adrian Blackhawks fell to the Midway Vikings 24-0 Friday night.  There’s no good way to put it. Adrian was pretty much dominated in every aspect by the visiting team.
As much as the outcome stung there are a few things to keep in perspective.   Our offense failed to find paydirt for the second straight game but we weren’t technically out of it until well into the second half.   The “big play” didn’t hurt us. Our defense played strong but Midway did a lot of the little things well.
What I’m trying to say is we got beat by things that we have the talent and personnel to fix. The best thing to do about this game is get mad (I mean...who WASN’T mad after that game?),  get over it, and get better.
This is a new week and a new challenge.  The conference title is out of reach now but the season is not over.  There is another challenge this week as Adrian travels to Jasper to take on the Eagles. Jasper and Adrian are both big teams with a single loss coming at the hands of the Vikings.   The Vikings are a good team. Neither team needs to hold their heads low. Whoever wins Friday will have their season back on track and can look forward to a possible chance to redeem themselves.
If my memory serves me correctly, Adrian lost to Midway in the 1987 regular season before exacting revenge in the playoffs en route to the State Championship game.  In 2002 the Blackhawks lost to Lockwood in the regular season before claiming the state title over Hayti. I remember speaking to Coach Bruto after Lockwood was bounced from the playoffs.  I thought he would have been relieved to have them out of the way but it was his firm belief that Adrian would have beaten them the second time around.
In the end, the Midway loss was just one game.  Do not let it define the season and do not let it deter the team and the fanbase from the dream we all had at the start of the season.  It’s time to show this team what its capable of doing. It is the fans' job to support the team and coaches in this endeavor.

Coach's Comments:

Not a very good night for us tonight. We came out with no fire. They punched us in the mouth, and we didn't fight back. Midway came in ready to play. They had a good defensive game plan. We actually had about 30 more rushing yards than they did. Their short passing game killed us. We have to be better about breaking on the ball and making a play. We will be working on that. We have to learn from this and get better. We have to go to Jasper this week, and they will be just as tough. They are big and will try to run over us. We are simply going to have to man up and play. We will be challenged this week, and it's time to step up.
