2007 AHS Grad Cassidy Urie travels to South Africa with NEA

After three flights and 36 hours of traveling, Cassidy Urie and two NEA fellows arrived in Cape Town, South Africa on July 19, 2019.

Cassidy Urie, AHS Class of 2007, is in South Africa as we speak.  She was selected as a Global Learning Fellowship from the NEA Foundation. Through the NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship, according to neafoundation.org, public school educators develop the knowledge and skills to integrate global competency into their daily classroom instruction, advocate for global competency in their schools and districts, and help students to thrive in our increasingly interconnected world. Fellows transform their classrooms to give students a global perspective.

In her years as a teacher to date, Cassidy has taught multiple classes, both in the states and internationally.  She is a 6th grade teacher in Columbia.  Cassidy is the ideal candidate for NEA!  Below are a few pictures from her trip so far.  Find more pictures from Cassidy's South Africa experience on the Adrian News Leader's Facebook page.  It will be updated whenever new pictures are available.  Thank you for allowing us to share them, Cassidy!  We are so proud of you and hope you have an incredible experience!

Day 1:  South Peninsula High School, Cape Town
Cassidy posted this on her Facebook page:  This morning, we had the opportunity to visit a local high school in Cape Town. We learned about the South African educational system, heard about "teacher life" in South Africa, and went on a tour led by students. We also learned about a program called SAILI, which is an organization who provides scholarships to students who need support paying for their school fees.
