The Adrian Blackhawks had their first road game of the young season when they traveled five miles north to take on the Archie Whirlwinds.
Adrian scored early in the contest on a Korbin Kisner 4 yard run to paydirt and Case Doody kick. They never trailed in the contest despite Archie answering that touchdown with a scoring drive of their own. Archie went for the lead attempting a 2-pt conversion run that was stuffed by the Blackhawk defense. Adrian closed out the quarter with another touchdown this time by Cooper Mead's 27 yard run. The Blackhawks never looked back after that.
The second quarter consisted of two touchdowns for Adrian. The first was a 53 yard run by Cooper Mead and the other a 7 yard run by Bryant Burkes. Doody connect on both extra points. Adrian led 28-6 going into halftime.
Adrian extended their lead on a 10 yard run in the third quarter and successful kick by Doody. The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter creating the final score of 41-14 Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks travel to Lincoln on Friday to take on the number one ranked Cardinals. Lincoln ended Adrian's season last year in the Class 1 quarterfinals in the championship bracket on their way to playing in the championship game. Adrian will have to take their game to the next level and avoid costly mistakes and penalties if they want to exact revenge and log the upset.
Coach Cochran's Comments:
It was a good win tonight. Offensively, the first half went well. We'll always take 28 points in a half. Defensively, we had some lapses at times. You can't do that against good teams. However, we did create three turnovers. We really didn't have a lot of fire in the second half. We can't play like that. We did many good things that we can build on, though. Our running game looked a lot better this week. I thought Cooper Mead ran well. The offensive line played well across the board. We are happy to get a conference win. Next up is Lincoln. They are a whole different breed. We are going to have to play mistake-free football. They are a very good team, and we are going to have to play well.
