Blackhawks tame the Tigers in District Semifinals

Senior Bryant Burkes led the Blackhawks to victory in the District Semifinals against Wellington-Napoleon.

District Semifinals, Adrian 48 Wellington-Napoleon 12

After falling behind early on Wellington-Napoleon's first drive of the game, Adrian shut down the Tigers and won easily last Friday, advancing to the district championship game this Friday against Windsor.  Windsor comes into the championship game with near equal point differential as Adrian.  They will hit the field with revenge on their minds and their eyes set on the State Quarterfinals.  The Blackhawks need to have a short memory.  The first meeting with Windsor went too easily and they will have to stay tough and focused to avoid a let down.  Bundle up and come out to support your Adrian Blackhawks this Friday, November 15 at 7pm at the George Bruto Athletic Complex!

Comments from Head Coach Matt Cochran:
"Tonight started off a little rough, but once we made some adjustments, the kids played well. Giving up a 50 yd run on Wellington's first offensive play wasn't good, but after that they only had 26 rushing yards for the rest of the game. The last 6 minutes before half was huge. We went from being up 7-6 to being up 35-12. We really got after them for those six minutes. Our defense had five takeaways on the night which really helped our offense. The only time our varsity offense didn't score was on the first drive of the game. Tonight was good because we got everybody in the game which can be tough to do this time of year. I think we played well in all phases of the game tonight. Bryant Burkes threw the ball well. We had five different people score touchdowns, too. It's good to distribute the ball around like that. Next week Windsor comes back to town. We have played them before, but that means nothing. It's win or go home. Windsor is a very good team. We need to have a great week of practice this week. We will have to play well to get the win."
