Since transferring from the classroom to the library 13 years ago, Adrian R-III Librarian Karen Cochran has been highly committed to offering the very best for Adrian students.  One way she has helped encourage and promote reading is by inviting authors to speak to the students.  On Friday, March 13, 2020, Author Gary Schmidt spoke to grades 4-12.  He was fantastic!  Schmidt shared funny stories that held everyone's attention from start to finish.  Michele (Burris) sat in on the middle school presentation and was impressed with the many well-thought out questions the students asked Schmidt.  He answered each question with enthusiasm, honesty and integrity.  Karen is grateful that Gary Schmidt visited Adrian R-III.  She said, "Gary is a great storyteller and a genuinely nice guy.  I'm so glad our students had an opportunity to hear him speak.  Thanks goes out to IMLS - Institute of Museum and Library Services - for providing a grant for this author visit.  Both Adrian and Drexel communities benefited from this."

Thanks also goes to Karen Cochran, who has shown year after year what an asset she is to Adrian R-III.  It all began in 1995 when she entered a 5th grade classroom. Karen later transitioned to 2nd grade then in 2007 to the library, where she continues to be the best librarian!  There's no limit to the the incredible things Karen has done in the library.  Take a look at the authors she has invited to Adrian through the years:  Roland Smith, Mary Casanova, Richard Jenkins, June Rae Wood, Lisa Campbell Ernst, Vicki Grove, Kelly Milner Halls (twice), Jennifer Brown, Dorinda Nicholson, Lisa McMann, and Illustrator Brad Sneed.  Later this school year, Bridget Heos will visit Adrian R-III.
