Adrian Falls to Butler in Season Opener (stats & quote added)

The Adrian Blackhawks hosted the Butler Bears at the George Bruto Athletic Complex Friday night.  The opening game of the season did not go the Blackhawks way as they fell to the Bears by a score of 32-14.

The Blackhawks took the opening kick of the game.  Their drive lasted three plays before having to punt.    Butler's possession went three plays before they lined up to punt.   Butler pulled off a successful fake punt that ended in a first down.   From there they marched systematically down the field to score the the touchdown on the game.    Butler added another touchdown  with 8:24 on the second quarter clock.  Both of their extra point attempts failed.

Adrian got on the scoreboard after the kick off.   Gage Steen took the snap and and kept the ball en route to a 78 yard run to paydirt.   Steen would add another touchdown later in the game.  Adam Cochran was good on both extra points but the Blackhawks could not catch the Bears in this ballgame.

"The boys didn't show any fire tonight," said Head Coach Matt Cochran.  "Butler came out and hit us in the mouth and we didn't respond.  Football is a game of emotion and we did not have any.  Our tackling was another issue.   I think we missed about 30 tackles tonight.  Give Butler credit.   They came in and took it to us.  They are a much better team than last year.   We will get this ship righted.   it's going to take some hard work and these kids know it.   We have Drexel next week.  They are a good team.   We are really going to have to play good football against them."

Now that the rust is knocked off and an unsavory taste left in the mouth of the team they will play host to the Drexel Bobcats Friday at 7pm.   Drexel is coming off a high scoring affair against the Appleton City Bulldogs.  Drexel won that game 58-56.

Gage Steen, Adam Cochran, Brohde Bennett and Devin Darby are captains for the first game of the year.
