Every fall a new group of boys assemble at the football field to start training, conditioning and learning the offensive and defensive systems they will be using that year. This year's squad will be led by Head Coach Matt Cochran and his assistant coaches, Matt Davis, Caleb Noland and Josh Van Slyke.
Each team will see new young faces in a new class of freshmen. It will also see upperclassmen ready to assume their roles as leaders on the team or to enhance their leadership roles carried over from last year. Seeing kids come into the program and advance themselves over the course of four years is what makes high school football so exciting.
Matt Cochran is entering his 24th year coaching football with the last 19 coming at Adrian. This is his third year as head coach in Adrian. Last year the team finished the season 6-5. They were 4-2 in the conference finishing in 3rd place.
The Blackhawks lost 10 players to graduation but also return 10 lettermen from last year's squad. Seniors on this year's squad include Connor Pruitt, Zachary Shannon, Zach Ball, Peyton Reynolds, Dylan Novovesky, Tanner Pitts, Jacob Weeks, Logan Harris and Nick Bunch
This strength of this year's team will be having some really quick kids. "We will also be a very intelligent team" said Cochran. "These kids know football so adapting to other teams on the fly should not be that difficult. We should be able to throw the ball well, too. There's no quit in our kids, either. They will give everything they have until the last whistle."
This year's weaknesses include not being that big as a whole. "We have a few big kids, but, overall, we will be small in size. Hopefully our quickness will make up for that."
Offensively the team will run a spread offense while running veer. Defensively, there will be several things they will run but the base defense will be a 4-4.
