Corey Urie Memorial Fund Donates to the Adrian R-3 Library

The legacy of Corey Urie's memory lives on yet again after a recent donation  of supplies to create a makerspace in school library.  In April funds from the Corey Urie Memorial Fund paid for a pottery wheel in the Adrian R-3 art department.

A makerspace is a work space inside the library where kids can gather to share resources and knowledge, work on projects, network, and build. Makerspaces provide high tech and no tech tools. Advisors may be available some of the time, but often novices get help from other users.

Here is a list of supplies that was purchased for this project:

  • Learn to Learn Core Set and Curriculum
  • Lego Education Brick Set (1000 pieces)
  • K'NEX 70 Model Building set
  • Click n' Play Green Building Brick Base (pkg of 8)
  • Babadio Virtual Reality Headset
  • Snap Circuits Junior Electronics discovery set
  • Latest Edition 3D pen Kit w/LED screen with art stencils (Qty 3)
  • 3D pen filament refills

The makerspace is a great way for children to create and learn by making.  The school is just beginning this process so it will evolve over time.   Early indicatioins are that it will be a great success.  "The students are really excited to create story situations with legos" said school librarian Karen Cochran.  "They don't want to put them away when it's time to move on."

Additional purchases will be made as funds allow. Donations to the Corey Lee Urie
Memorial Fund are always welcome. You can help Corey and his family make and impact! Send donations to Adrian Bank, P.O. Box 127, Adrian, MO 64720. The Urie Family thanks everyone for all of the love and support.
