The Adrian Blackhawks Girls basketball team made their presence known in the Clinton Tournament the week of January 23rd - 28th. Sandwiched in between blowout victories in the open round against Nevada and the championship game against Warrensburg was a thriller against Odessa won by Adrian in overtime.
The Lady Blackhawks defeated Nevada in the opening round 70-47 and routed the Warrensburg Lady Tigers 56-29 t take the title. The most exciting game of the tournament took place in the second round against Odessa. The game became an instant classic for the manner in which Adrian overcame a two point deficit with no time on the clock and win in the extra period.
Adrian was up by 15 in the second half but found themselves down two points as time expired on Bailey Reed's shot in which she was fouled on. The shot did not go in but Bailey's clutch two free throws did.
Standing out there on the island all by herself Bailey knuckled down and came through BIG TIME when the Blackhawks needed her most.
The overtime was a back-and-forth affair but Adrian built themselves a three-point lead and held on as time ran off the clock.
It wasn't a pretty game but a win is a win.
Coaches comments: "The girls came out with great energy and emotion which really helped us on defense" said Head Coach Shaun Bruto.
