Learned Something by LIz Ray

Learned Something

Oh, I thought I was so ahead of the game. I’m usually always running behind when company comes but I finally squeezed in a little extra time early that morning to start preparing the toasted cheese sandwiches before my lunch guests arrived.

Usually with my tongue hanging out, at the last minute I ask them to help cut the homemade bread, butter it, and toast it while I am dashing about doing another part of the lunch.

But this time for some strange reason, I got the bread cut ahead of time, buttered, and cheese put on all ready for the last-minute toasting. Ah, so prepared!

Well, I put the two buttered sides together so all I would have to do is turn one side over on the cheese already on it and throw it in the skillet for quick and perfect toasting.

The only thing I put them neatly in a container in the refrigerator to await their toasting ceremony.
I was so proud of myself for this early organizing. All I had to do was just take them out at the last minute and pop them into the skillet.

No! All this time-saving buttering ahead of time came to naught.  I couldn’t pull the two buttered sides apart because I had put them in the refrigerator and they were cold and wouldn’t budge.

Oh, boy! Now it’s taking longer than if I hadn’t even done anything in preparing.  I had to laugh. My Proverb to Live By a few days before was “Don’t brag about your plans for tomorrow...” (Proverbs 27:1 TLB)

And, of course, I thought about “the best laid plans of mice and men…”

Well, at least I learned something—if I’m going to butter ahead of time, leave it out of the refrigerator.
And I’ve always found it’s exciting to learn something—even if it is the hard way. At least, I can get a good laugh out of it.

And I thank God that the toasted cheese sandwiches did turn out delicious—even if we had to wait for them to thaw. God can always turn bad into good and I’m so glad!

Love in Jesus,
God’s “plan ahead” servant,

Liz Ray
