Adrian family volunteers when school is out

Four Blackhawks volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House today with their Mom.  Left to right:  Myles, Khloe, Kenton and Makenna.  Not pictured, Alicia (Mom).

Adrian R-III was closed today (October 22) following Parent-Teacher conferences. On this day out of school, the Merrifield Family decided to change things up and help others. Merrifield Mom, Alicia, shared their experience: "The kids and I experienced something today that was new to all of us. We took advantage of a no-school-Monday and served lunch at the Ronald McDonald house in the Family Room at Children's Mercy-Downtown."

The civic-minded Merrifield's made a meal and treats at home and served it to about 60 people. Alicia said, "We made spaghetti and served salad and bread with it. We made homemade chocolate chip cookies and bought ice cream sandwiches, which were a HUGE hit."

Will they do it again? "The kids, mainly Khloe, already have the menu planned for next time," Alicia said. "It's definitely something we're going to repeat."
Blackhawks are doing what they do best - putting the needs of others first! What a neat thing for the Merrifield's to do on a day off from school!  The Merrifield kids represent Adrian Elementary, Middle and High Schools:  Myles, freshman; Makenna, 7th grade; Kenton, 4th grade; and Khloe, 2nd grade.
