Lady Blackhawks Start New Year Off Right

The Lady Blackhawks basketball team ushered in the new year with a couple of easy victories over the Rich Hill Tigers and Lockwood Tigers.  The games were each lopsided in Adrian's favor which makes it a nice way to come back from the long winter break.
First up for Adrian was the Lady Tigers from Rich Hill.  Adrian traveled to the dome and dominated early and often on their way to a 69-21 victory.  Jenna Shipley was the top scorer and rebounder with 32 points and 9 boards. Camryn Pruitt put in a solid 8 pt, 8 rebound performance of her own.   Braylen Ford had seven points and Mackenna Hummel pulled down 5 rebounds. Adrian had 22 steals in the game and shot 73% from the free throw line hitting 19 of 26 attempts.
Friday night Adrian had it's first home game of 2019 hosting the Lockwood Tigers.  Adrian cruised to a 62-45 victory.   The Blackhawks 20 turnovers did not keep them from winning in double digits but it does show an area for improvement.
Jenna Shipley was the leading scorer with 35 points and 17 rebounds.  Camryn Pruitt was strong down low with 8 points and five rebounds.   Kylie Morris rounded out the top scorers with 7 points.  Mayci Cunningham pulled down 6 rebounds and Braylen Ford had 5.  Cunningham was the assists leader dishing out 7 to her teammates.
Coach's Comments: "This was a good way to start off the New Year" said head coach Shaun Bruto. "We played much better at times against a very good Lockwood team".
The wins elevate the Lady Blackhawks record to 8-2 overall with a conference record of 2-0.  Next up for Adrian is a road game tonight at Drexel.   Drexel's record stands at 4 wins and 5 losses. Game time is set for 6 pm following the JV boys and girls games.
